About the Position:
University Advancement serves Cal State Fullerton by building and strengthening relationships with the communities we serve to encourage advocacy, investment and support of the University, its mission, goals and programs in support of student and alumni success. The department of College and Program Development is seeking an exceptional individual to join the team as the Senior Director of Development, Athletics. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

The primary responsibilities of this position will be to generate major gift support for the Department of Athletics. The Senior Director of Development for Athletics will identify, cultivate and solicit major gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations. This position will assist coaches and senior campus administrators to acquire critical funding for athletic scholarships and programs. Develops and maintains concept papers for divisional fundraising priorities and will also develop an annual strategic fundraising plan supportive of the fundraising priorities and goals established by the Associate Vice President for College and Program Development and the Athletic Director. Works closely with the Alumni Association to develop the interests of alumni and friends of the University as it relates to Athletics. The position will serve on the Director of Athletics Administration Team. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Minimum of five years direct major gift fundraising experience. Experience with capital or comprehensive campaign with a primary focus on cultivation/solicitation of large gifts. Experience in cultivating a prospect and closing major gifts. Experience working with various levels of individuals in an organization who may assist in the identification, cultivation and solicitation of gifts. Experience in coordinating events for cultivation. Experience in creating a strategic approach to development with assessment built in to determine progress and success. Experience in making frequent on and off-site presentations to individuals and corporate leaders. Ability to work with teams of faculty, staff and students. Dynamic, self-motivated and goal oriented. Experience with development software. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Must adhere to the highest standards of confidentiality, ethics, and judgment in terms of the institutional data and information. Demonstrate a high level of initiative, creativity and collaboration.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in Athletic fundraising in a university environment. Understanding of university culture and corporate philanthropy.

Occasional early morning, evening and weekend hours. Requires reliable source of transportation to attend events, visit schools and other outside constituents at variable hours.
