About the Position:

The Athletics department at Cal State Fullerton strives to provide an intercollegiate athletics program that is an integral part of the total educational experience at California State University, Fullerton and fits within the overall mission of the University. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Assistant Athletics Director, Video and Broadcasting. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

The primary responsibilities of this position will be to oversee and coordinate all aspects of video operations and broadcasting content for the Titan Athletics Department. The Assistant Athletics Director will supervise the athletics video and broadcasting office, including hiring, training, and scheduling, to ensure full staff coverage of all required games and events. Produce live, multi-camera broadcasts of athletics contests, ensuring all broadcasts fulfill conference regulations and production standards. Manage relationships with external broadcast partners such as ESPN in the preparation and production of live broadcasts and related on-demand content. Manage live and/or on-demand video coverage of press conferences, special announcements, and special events. Manage the setup, in-game direction and upkeep of all video boards and streaming equipment at athletics facilities. Serve as in-game lead to troubleshoot any issues with the in-game stream and video boards in a timely manner. Works with the Broadcast Engineer, Sports Information, Graphic Design, Video Operations staff to produce requested specialty content for use on video boards during games and/or special events. Works collaboratively with game day staff and external affairs staff on the creation and timing of video board content to be displayed during games and special events. Manages the budget and strategic direction of the athletics video and broadcasting department, including procurement, storage, maintenance, and repair of equipment and video systems. The position will serve on the Director of Athletics Administrative Team. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 2 years collegiate or professional athletics video production, videography and editing experience, including video board and in-game/in-event streaming set up and operation OR High School Diploma/equivalent and 8 years collegiate or professional athletics video production, videography and editing experience, to include video board and in-game/in-event streaming set up and operation. Proficiency with control room equipment and their connection to both video board and streaming outlets. Equipment knowledge includes: switchers, instant replay, clips server, audio mixers, audio communication systems, streaming services and both SD and HD cameras. Knowledge of sports video (streaming and board) crewing positions and game video production. Ability to use audio mixers, A/V patch bays, etc. Familiarity with Daktronics video displays. Solid working knowledge of editing programs (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite and Final Cut Pro) and production equipment (e.g., Ross and Newtek). Ability to interact effectively with coaches, administrators, student athletes, media and vendors. Must have strong organizational, management and leadership skills. Proven ability to multi-task effectively, prioritize assignments and meet deadlines. Must have outstanding work ethic and strict attention to detail. Ability to manage the departmental operational budget.

Ability to work a flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends, and available for possible to travel with sport teams for selected away contests.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with the ESPN collegiate program, broadcasting standards and preferred equipment. Experience in a technical support role producing live events, highlights and other feature content. Experience with crewing and supervising live production. Familiarity with proper green screen lighting and keying techniques. Knowledge of industry-standard and growing trends in terms of equipment and infrastructure. Understanding of NCAA & FCC broadcasting rules. Thorough knowledge of NCAA and Big West Conference rules.
