POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Associate Athletic Director for Development & Leadership Annual Giving, the Assistant Athletic Director for Development is responsible for increasing revenue for Athletics in addition to managing a major giving portfolio. The key focus of this role will be in two areas. 1.) Expanding the Annual Giving pipeline to increase both the quantity of donors and total sum of giving to Athletics. This will be accomplished through frontline solicitations, coordinating with other major gift officers to elevate Athletics annual giving as a funding priority, and by partnering with the Development Annual Giving team to oversee the messaging and execution of the Athletics annual fund (the Dons Fund) initiatives and campaigns. 2.) The position will also manage relationships with a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors and be responsible for securing gifts and commitments of five and six figures. The position is charged with developing and implementing strategies to secure financial support from a portfolio of prospects made up of USF alumni and friends.
The overall goal for this position is to build and cultivate relationships with donors to the recently completed $300m Changing the World from Here' campaign and enhance the annual giving pipeline for the next campaign set to launch in the quiet phase in 2024.
The Assistant Athletic Director will co-manage the Athletic Director's Circle volunteer board, and work with the Associate Athletic Director, Alumni Engagement office, athletics coaching staff, and Special Events teams to share and execute the vision for Athletics with alumni and USF community.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

USF has recently completed a comprehensive fundraising campaign of $300m, in which over $30m was raised to support Athletics. USF is also in the planning stages of the next USF campaign. The Assistant Athletic Director for Development will play a key role in this campaign by identifying, qualifying, cultivating, and personally soliciting alumni and friends with the capacity to make annual, major, and planned gifts. They will also oversee the overall Athletics annual fund strategy including donor stewardship, calendar and fiscal year-end solicitations, and the annual day of giving (Day of the Dons) activities for Athletics. The position will also manage a portfolio of major gift prospects and focus on their long-term cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. The position will develop ongoing personal relationships with those prospects, as well as with internal stakeholders who can support the deepening of those relationships and securing revenue in support of the programs within Athletics and other University priorities.

The Assistant Athletic Director for Development will:
  • Achieve annual personal fundraising and activity goals, including:
    • Managing a portfolio of 75 to125 prospects, overseeing all aspects of the donor cycle.
    • Making 8-10 face-to-face individual prospect visits and group contacts monthly.
    • Responsible for raising $200,000 in year one cumulative of annual fund and major gifts with increased revenue goals in subsequent years.
  • Significantly increase the strength and breath of annual giving for USF Athletics, including
    • Raising Department of Athletics total Annual Fund revenue to consistently exceed $1M, with increased revenue goals in subsequent years.
    • Increase the number of donors to Athletics to exceed 1,450 households with increased goals in subsequent years.
    • Assist with management of the Athletic Development Intern to help coordinate all Annual Fund solicitations, mailings, and renewals in addition to providing special events support.


Additional responsibilities include
  • Co-manage the AD's Circle volunteer board. Responsibilities include identifying and helping to recruit board members and playing an integral role in managing and deepening relationships with the board members. Also, serve as the primary schedule manager for meetings occurring a minimum of twice annually.
  • With the Associate Athletic Director for Development, establish a long-term strategy to substantially grow contributions at all levels and through all channels increasing the number and amount of major gifts the Department of Athletics receives annually.
  • Collaborate with the Annual Giving team to develop an annual fund strategy for the Department of Athletics.
  • Collaborate with the Stewardship and Events team to develop a stewardship strategy for annual fund donors to Athletics.
  • Collaborate with Major and Planned Giving teams to ensure a coordinated approach to all prospects.
  • Be visible among supporters of USF Athletics by attending games - mainly Men's Basketball and Women's Basketball and other signature events through the academic year.
  • Participate in Development Division team efforts.
  • Collaborate with Alumni Engagement to engage donors and prospects in volunteer roles.
  • Assist the Associate Athletic Director for Development with management of the department's high level volunteer board.
  • Adherence to all NCAA and institutional rules and policy, including Title IX and NCAA Compliance.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree, with preference of a graduate degree and/or relevant experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years of progressive and successful development experience in the higher education arena or equivalent experience in sports sales, marketing or a related field, with preference for candidates who have directly relevant experience in athletics fundraising, lead generation, sales and development processes.
  • Experience managing a portfolio or assigned book of business prospects.
  • Broad knowledge of the principles of fundraising and ability to participate in all aspects of the gift cycle.
  • Ability to clearly articulate the case for support and fundraising priorities of USF in supporting the University's mission and Department of Athletics initiatives.
  • Ability to initiate contact via phone, email and all modes of communication to set meetings with donors and prospects.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to write proposals and accompanying materials to individual donors, as well as the ability to listen carefully and patiently to prospects and donors.
  • Stellar relationship building skills and ability to build rapport with internal and external stakeholders around innovative ideas and programs for Athletics.
  • Actively participate in inclusion, diversity, equity, action, and access learning opportunities to support an inclusive, diverse, and engaged work environment
  • Ability to work nights and weekends.
  • Ability to travel around the region and to other areas of the country as needed.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
