Job Description:


APPOINTMENT: December 2021

RESPONSIBILITIES: Monitor and evaluate the academic performance of all student-athletes at Western Illinois University, including correspondence with faculty & staff through progress reports. Provide access to professional and ethical counseling and advising for student-athletes. Oversee tutoring services for student-athletes using available campus resources. Meet with "at-risk" student-athletes on a regularly scheduled basis to ensure that satisfactory academic progress is maintained. Lead the department's student-athlete programming efforts on personal, career, and leadership development, and community service. Manage academic services staff, including assistant director and graduate assistants. Maintain regular communication with student-athletes, coaches, faculty, staff, and administrators on class schedules, academic progress, and other related items. Monitor and evaluate transfer eligibility. Coordinate with compliance, registrar, faculty athletics representative, and other campus units in monitoring and evaluating student-athlete academic eligibility. Assist in completion of various NCAA reports, e.g. APR, GSR. Assist with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Requirements:


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree. Experience in academic advising intercollegiate student-athletes. Demonstrated experience of the initial and transfer eligibility requirements of student-athletes as established by NCAA regulations. Experience with Life-Skills and/or programming targeted at student-athlete development. Strong written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to relate to a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Prior supervisory experience. Prior experience working with Division I student-athletes on academic matters. Experience with NCAA academic reports. Experience in working with students with learning disabilities.

For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body). Unless otherwise stated, the degree must be "in hand" at the time of application.

The University's athletics program, based on the Macomb campus, sponsors 17 NCAA Division I intercollegiate men's and women's varsity sports. Football competes in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision through the Missouri Valley Football Conference; all other varsity sports compete at the Division I level through The Summit League.
