Position Summary:
The Assistant Athletic Trainer reports to the Assistant Director of Athletics for Sports Medicine. This position assists in all aspects of the Sports Medicine Department. This position will oversee the health and safety of student-athletes of assigned teams. The specific teams will be determined by the Assistant Director of Athletics for Sports Medicine. This position will also assist with inventory tracking, pre-season medical clearance, medical documentation, and the overall upkeep of the athletic training room.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Maintain overall Sports Medicine Department including: injury care and prevention, injury evaluation and management, post-operative rehab, and educating of student-athletes and coaches. Maintain accurate medical documentation for student-athletes. Ensure proper injury and treatment tracking of student-athletes. Establish and maintain good communication with team physicians (Orthopedic and Sports Medicine). Establish and maintain good communication with strength and conditioning staff. Establish and maintain good communication with coaching staff and student athletes. Contribute to the growth of the department by bringing new ideas about Nutrition, Cardiac Health, Mental Wellness, Concussion research, etc. to the Sports Medicine staff. Assist in the management of the day-to-day operations of the athletic training room. Responsible for proper coverage during athletics participation of student-athletes, including practice and game coverage, both home and away of assigned teams. Other event coverage as assigned based upon needs of the department. Understand and follow proper MSU Denver protocols including but not limited to concussion and Covid-19. Maintain confidentiality of student-athlete injuries and illnesses. Serve as a preceptor to the Athletic Training Education Program by supervising and teaching athletic training students. Assist with the rehabilitation of MSU Denver general student body when needed. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree. Certification through the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATABOC). Two years of experience in the athletic training profession. AED/CPR Certified (Professional Rescuer). Effective communication skills across of variety of platforms.

Preferred Qualifications:
Masters Degree in Athletic Training or related field. Two years of experience working in collegiate athletics. Colorado Athletic Trainer License (will be required prior to start date) Knowledge of SportsWare injury tracking system. Experience supervising student athletic trainers. Experience maintaining files and documentation. Experience with referrals based on insurance. Experience with maintaining confidentiality.
