Job Summary

The Assistant Athletic Director, Social Strategy and Content primary responsibility will include the day-to-day management, strategy & coordination of the primary social media channels associated with all CU Athletics team sports, as well as social creative content management, production & supervision to highlight CU Athletic stories on and off the field. This role is also responsible for assistance & guidance regarding ancillary CU Athletics channels (Buff Club, Academics, LCD, etc.). This position will manage a team of digital content/social managers and creative video producers, including:
  • Create engaging creative video content and storytelling in support of University of Colorado athletic events, coaches, staff and athletes Perform other creative duties as necessary including photography, graphics editing, website content management, etc.
  • Collaborate with Buffvision, graphic design, marketing, SID and other departments to create and maintain a social media calendar for short-term initiatives and long-term campaigns.
  • Supervise, train, coordinate & manage the entire creative content intern program, ensuring complete creative coverage at all home games, select practices, department events, and select away games and efficient dissemination of content to relevant partners.
  • Work closely with other departments for partner promotions across all platforms.
  • Monitor relevant social media conversations, including identification of hot topics and fan sentiment, communicating with administration as necessary.
  • This position is responsible for promoting the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program. This shall include adhering to the principles of the Athletic Department's Mission Statement, Diversity and Inclusion Mission Statement, Core Values, Policies and Procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the University, the Big 12 Conference and the NCAA.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Video Content:
  • Create, produce and edit high-quality, video content for Men's Basketball for social media, recruiting and marketing efforts.
  • Create, produce and edit high-quality, creative video content for various digital and social media platforms to promote University of Colorado Athletic Department
  • Develop innovative storytelling techniques that engage fans and alumni, showcasing athletic events, behind-the-scenes content, and features on student-athletes, coaches and teams.
  • Guide the creative video producers in developing compelling video content, ensuring high production quality and alignment with the respective sport team and departments brand and goals.
  • Develop and implement a video brand guide in collaboration with Buff Vision and football video that ensures cohesion across creative video production for University of Colorado Athletic Department sports.
Social Strategy & Oversight:
  • Provide creative direction and feedback to social and creative video staff to ensure consistency in messaging, tone and visual identity across all social platforms.
  • Supervise and mentor digital content director and manager, responsible for managing CU Athletics main accounts, football and men's basketball social media accounts.
  • Maintain a year round comprehensive content calendar incorporating competition, recruiting, special events, trends and other relevant opportunities in collaboration with the Digital Content and Strategy Director.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to amplify stories of student-athletes, coaches, and staff while highlighting competitions and accomplishments.
  • Oversee the execution of sponsorship element post per Buffalo Sports Properties as needed across all social channels.
  • Analyze performance metrics, provide insights, and adjust strategies accordingly to ensure optimal engagement and fan reach across platforms.
  • Collaborate with marketing, ticketing and fundraising teams to create and implement revenue generating campaigns.
  • Lead weekly creative meetings with the appropriate staff focusing on content and social strategy, use of social platforms for Men's Basketball.
  • Lead and supervise the creative student intern program for digital content, providing training, mentoring, and professional development opportunities for students. Also including scheduling and day-to-day operations of the program.
  • Ensure student interns are contributing to the team while gaining valuable experience.
Social Media Brand Education:
  • Assist Men's Basketball coaches, student-athletes and staff with personal branding and social media standards, ensuring their content aligns with the department's overall mission and branding.
  • Provide videos, photos, graphics and more for all relevant groups to share on social media in a timely manner.
  • Coordinating with Communications and Leadership and Career Development to educate student-athletes on personal branding, and department and sport policies related to social media, while keeping up-to-date with Name Image and Likeness best practices including following guidelines and regulations set by compliance and the NCAA.




What We Can Offer

  • Starting salary range is $85,000 - $90,000.
  • Relocation assistance is available within department guidelines.

What We Require

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, journalism, communication or other applicable area of study.
  • At least 3 years experience in digital content creation, video production and editing, and social media management, preferably in college athletics or sports related setting.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.


What You Will Need

  • Experience creating and editing photo and video content, including proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, etc.) and other digital content.
  • Strong working knowledge of social media & social sites including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Tiktok etc.
  • Solid management and communication abilities to lead and collaborate with a diverse group of people.
  • Ability to build and maintain social content calendars and communicate/collaborate with cross functional groups to complete responsibilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and under pressure.
  • Multitasking and prioritizing assignments is a crucial skill for this position.
  • Skills and experience in social media management and strategy.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
