The Athletic Director at Western Wyoming Community College provides strategic leadership for a competitive NJCAA Division I athletics program, aligning team success with the College's mission and values. The position oversees coaches and staff, promotes a culture of accountability and sportsmanship, and ensures compliance with all governing standards. The Director is responsible for sound financial stewardship, including budget development, resource allocation, and fiscal oversight. This role also drives program competitiveness through effective recruitment, retention, and development of student-athletes and coaches. In addition, the Athletic Director leads fundraising and external engagement efforts, building strong relationships with alumni, donors, and community partners to support scholarships and sustain long-term program success. Evening and weekend work will be required.

ATHLETIC DIRECTOR PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Compliance & Eligibility
  • Establish procedures to ensure all student-athletes meet eligibility requirements.
  • Create clear recruiting standards aligned with institutional values and compliance regulations.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable rules and regulations.
  • Implement systems for tracking eligibility, recruiting activities, and required documentation.
  • Provide regular rules education for staff and student-athletes.
  • Ensure gender equity in athletic participation, scholarships, and resources and regularly review policies and practices for compliance with Title IX.
  • Oversee adherence to institutional and NJCAA policies.
Athletic Department Leadership
  • Clearly define the athletic department's mission and ensure alignment with the institution's overall mission and strategic goals.
  • Define clear roles and expectations for all athletic department staff.
  • Promote collaboration and communication across all units within athletics.
  • Establish team travel policies, including approval processes, itineraries, and safety protocols.
  • Implement risk management procedures for practices, competitions, and travel.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy for athletics
  • Oversee the management of all athletic facilities including, gyms, weight rooms, locker rooms, offices and training room.
  • Works closely with the college marketing department, oversees promotion and marketing of events, games, and athletics as a whole.
Financial Management
  • Develop and maintain a structured budgeting process.
  • Ensure transparency, accountability, and timely reporting of all financial activities.
Fundraising
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan for athletics that includes;
    • Defined annual targets
    • Sport-specific and department-wide goals
    • Donor engagement plans
Student Athlete Support
  • Coordinate support services such as mental health resources, career development, and life skills programming.
  • Ensure student athletes are provided academic advising, tutoring, and progress monitoring.
  • Facilitate regular communication between coaches and academic support staff
  • Define expectations for student-athlete behavior on and off the field.
  • Establish a clear disciplinary process for violations.
  • Promote sportsmanship, integrity, and accountability.
Game Day Experience
  • Organize procedures for scheduling, maintaining, and using athletic facilities.
  • Manage game-day operations, including staffing, equipment, and event management.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, accessibility, and operational standards.


Minimum Qualifications:
ATHLETIC DIRECTOR MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor's Degree in sports management, physical education, recreation, educational leadership or closely related field
2. Four (4) years of experience in athletic administration, college level coaching or similar types of leadership & supervisory experience
3. A demonstrated ability in;
  • Program level management
  • Budgeting and financial oversight
  • Staff supervision and hiring
  • Compliance knowledge


4. Strong communication skills
5. Leadership and team-building ability
6. Organizational & problem-solving skills
7. Commitment to student-athlete success
Equivalency Statement
For those candidates who do not exactly meet all the minimum qualifications, an equivalent combination of education and experience, which has provided comparable knowledge and abilities, may be acceptable.


Preferred Qualifications:
ATHLETIC DIRECTOR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Master's in sports management, physical education or closely related field

2. Athletic administration at the NJCAA level

3. Demonstrated background in athletic fundraising
